Abstract:

Extended depth of field(EDOF)intraocular len(IOL)can enhance depth of field by creating an extended single focal point, which significantly reduces glare, halos, and starlight after multifocal(MF)IOL implantation.Ideally, this type of IOL would improve middle and near vision while minimizing the impact on long distance vision. However, the result of lengthening depth of field is a decrease in contrast sensitivity and visual quality,so there are trade-offs to be made. The focus of future research should be to find the balance between the best overall naked eye vision, the best visual quality and the least light phenomena to provide the best visual quality for cataract patients. The concept, classification, application status and future prospects of EDOF IOL were reviewed.

Key words: Extended depth of field, Presbyopia, Intraocular lens, Spherical aberration
