Abstract:

In recent years, as cataract treatment entering the era of refractive surgery, a variety of functional intraocular lenses (IOL) continue to emerge, which optimizes the visual quality of patients after surgery. Recently, extended depth of focus (EDOF) of IOL have been used in the treatment of cataracts and paied extensive attention from clinicians. EDOF of IOL is aim to increase the depth of focus, which can obtain ideal intermediate vision while preserving the distance vision for patients. With the continuous integration of smart-phones and tablet computers into modern life, it is particularly important to obtain good intermediate vision and visual quality, which indicates that EDOF of IOL will become an important development direction for refractive cataract surgery. The principles, classifications and applications of EDOF of IOL were reviewed in this article.
