Abstract:

Meibomian gland dysfunction(MGD)is the most prevalent cause of dry eye disease(DED).It is a chronic, diffuse condition that falls under ocular surface diseases and is highly prevalent in clinical practice. The etiology of MGD is multifactorial, and currently, there is no consensus on its exact origins.Elucidating the pathogenesis of MGD is crucial for improving clinical diagnosis and treatment strategies.Recently,it has been demonstrated that the partial pathogenesis of MGD was investigated both domestically and internationally, and was reviewed comprehensively in this paper.
