Abstract:

Various types of bacteria exist in the human eye and maintain a dynamic balance under normal conditions, which is important to regulate host metabolism, promote immune system development, and defend against pathogen invasion. It has been demonstrated that the bacteria species imbalance was associated with various ophthalmic diseases. Infants and children have a higher risk of infection and rate of progression of infectious eye disease than adults due to underdeveloped ocular tissues, lower anti-infective capacity. Therefore, understanding the relationship between the occurrence and development of various ocular diseases and ocular bacteria in infants and children is important for the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. In this paper, the changes of the bacteria of the eye with the ocular health and disease conditions in infants and children were summarized and compared, in order to provide references for clinical diagnosis and treatment and related research.
