Advances on the effects of dry eye disease on quality of life

Abstract:

Dry eye disease is an increasingly serious public health problem. The common eye discomfort caused by dry eye disease in clinic includes eye dryness, visual fatigue, foreign body sensation, burning sensation and photophobia, which further leads to visual damage and reduces contrast sensitivity. These discomforts greatly affected the quality of life, which including physical function, social function, psychological function, daily activities and work productivity. The effect of visual disturbance on patients′ quality of life with dry eye disease was difficult or impossible to achieve for certain. In this review, we summarize the evaluation method of visual impairment and the impact on quality of life from dry eye disease by reviewing the published literature, which aims to provide the reference for clinical practice.
