Study on the effect of sleep on the occurrence and development of glaucoma

Abstract:

Glaucoma is a serious irreversible blindness, with pathological high intraocular pressure or normal intraocular pressure, as well as discus optic and retinal nerve fiber layer damage, and glaucomatous visual field change. World Health Organization has listed it as the world′s second most common blind eye disease. Sleep can cause a certain impact on intraocular pressure in patients with glaucoma, thereby exacerbating the development of the disease. On the contrary, glaucoma has been classified as a clear " psychological factors affecting the body disease" or " psychophysiological disease" . The psychological and physical symptoms of patients with glaucoma can also affect their sleep quality. Therefore, glaucoma and sleep can interrelate with each other. In this paper, the author makes a brief review of the interaction between glaucoma and sleep.
