Abstract:

Floppy iris syndrome (FIS) is a complication during cataract surgery in patients with a history of using of α-1 adrenoreceptor antagonist before surgery. FIS is characterized by a triad of iris prolapse, progressive intraoperative miosis, and billowing of the iris. The occurrence of FIS is associated with sight-threatening complications such as posterior capsule rupture, vitreous loss, nuclear fragments residue and iris trauma. Thus, perioperative prevention and treatment of FIS has been paid intense attention by ophthalmologists. The clinical characteristics, perioperative prevention and management of FIS was summarized in this paper.
