Abstract:

Ocular-cranial pressure difference is a hot topic in the field of glaucoma, and is closely related to the pathogenesis of normal-tension glaucoma. The proposed reference interval of ocular-cranial pressure difference brings a significant update to the treatment strategy of normal-tension glaucoma. The reference interval can be applied not only in ophthalmology, but also in neurosurgery, where the surgical plan for normal-pressure hydrocephalus is developed; in neurology, where the prevention and treatment of papilledema in idiopathic intracranial hypertension is performed; in aerospace medicine, where microgravity-related eye diseases are diagnosized and treated; and in high altitude medicine, where high altitude retinal diseases are diagnosized and treated. The current status and prospects of the application of ocular-cranial pressure difference reference interval in multidisciplinary fields were reviewed in this paper.

Key words: Ocular-cranial pressure difference, Reference interval, Normal-tension glaucoma, Idiopathic intracranial hypertension, Normal-pressure hydrocephalus
