Abstract:

Intrastromal corneal ring segments (ICRS) implantation is a surgical way to treat mild-to-moderate keratoconus. As the central cornea is relatively flattened after implantation, it serves an arc-shorted effect, causing the radius of corneal curvature shortened and the refraction decreased, which to improve the axial myopia and irregular astigmatism caused by cornea ectasia and protrusion. Meanwhile, it is minimal invasive, safe, effective and reversible and its long-term efficacy gradually gets admitted. ICRS implantation for its history, surgical steps, indications and outcomes in clinical realms were reviewed in this paper, which to provide some practical and useful information for clinical operation.

Key words: Keratoconus, Intrastromal corneal ring segments, ICRS implantation, Efficacy evaluation
