Current status and progress in the treatment of corneal alkali burn

Abstract:

Chemical burn of eyes, especially alkali burn, is one of the most complicated and difficult diseases to cure. Alkaline contact with tissue results in the formation of water soluble alkali denatured protein complexes, saponified adipose tissue, liquefaction necrosis of tissue occurred, cause the alkaline substance to diffuse rapidly to the surrounding and deep tissues, erosion of intraocular tissue, resulting in corneal degeneration, necrosis, perforation and neovascularization, severe threat to patient vision. In recent years, with the development of Basic Medicine, further progress has been made in the treatment of alkali burn. In this paper, we reviewed the recent advances in the treatment of corneal alkaline burn.
